Understanding the Values, Priorities, and World Views of Families Raising Children with Chronic Developmental Conditions
Year of Study: 2002 - 2005
This three-year study will look at how parenting a child with a disability affects family values, priorities, and views of their place in the world. Interviews will be held with up to 24 families across Ontario. Families of children with Down syndrome and autism are invited to participate. The study will be coordinated through the Thames Valley Children's Centre, in London, Ont., with assistance from the Down Syndrome Association of Ontario, the Hamilton Family Network, the Family Alliance and various chapters of the Autism Society Ontario. Families will be queried at two transition points-entry into school and transition into high school.
This information could help ease the challenges commonly faced by families of children with disabilities.
