Lisbeth Nilsson

Dr Lisbeth Nilsson is an Occupational Therapist and independent researcher associated with Health Sciences at Lund University, Sweden and Honorary Research Fellow at University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban, South Africa. She is also a member of the Specialist Council of the Swedish Association of Occupational Therapists, actively engaged in the specialist education.
She became an Occupational Therapist in 1974 and did clinical work in different specialities before completing her Master of Science in 1996. Her research trajectory focused on children and adults with profound cognitive disabilities and what they could achieve from practice in a joystick-operated powered wheelchair. In 2007 she presented the doctoral dissertation "Driving to Learn: The process of growing consciousness of tool-use - a grounded theory of de-plateauing". Later she modified and expanded her findings in collaboration with Josephine Durkin, PhD, OT from UK into what today has become the universal Assessment of Learning Process (ALP) - a tool including instrument and facilitating strategies.
Focus for her work is to disseminate her continuously emerging findings, to inspire and collaborate across professional, scientific and country boarders. With this focus on dissemination, she is open to engage in collaborations in a variety of contexts at a global level.
