Covid Time Capsule Townhall

The Covid Time Capsule team held the townhall where we aimed to bridge together healthcare providers, educators, families, researchers, policy makers, and other stakeholders to discuss the study results and identify the next steps.

What do children with disabilities and their families need to thrive? A team of researchers, mothers, and children and youth with disabilities set out to answer this question by exploring their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Their mission? To uncover what supports and services — spanning healthcare, education, and community life — families need now and in the future.

Here’s what we learned:

Families want services that are flexible, relationship-focused, and comprehensive, with seamless coordination across sectors. They need support that considers the well-being of the entire family. These same needs pertain to different sectors, including healthcare and education. For example, school-age children often receive the bulk of therapies and services at school. However, professionals from different sectors rarely communicate or collaborate effectively. This town hall is your chance to help change that. We’re bringing together healthcare providers, educators, and families for a meaningful conversation. Let’s brainstorm practical strategies to address the needs families have shared and work together to identify actionable next steps.
